At Home in my Neighbourhood

Council, in partnership with HOT 91, invited video submissions of “Neighbourhood Stories” to understand what makes people feel at home in their community. Submissions closed 2 September 2018.

At Home in my Neighbourhood is a Sunshine Coast Council program that aims to create a sense of belonging by encouraging people on the Sunshine Coast to come together and build friendly, connected neighbourhoods.

Holding a neighbourhood gathering or undertaking a neighbourhood project can be a great way to meet your neighbours and connect with your local community. These activities also create opportunities to build friendships, have fun, share ideas or work together.

Toolkit and Resources

However you and your neighbours choose to come together, we have created the At Home in my Neighbourhood toolkit to help you make your neighbourhood activity as fun and successful as possible. The toolkit is full of easy to read and useful information and resources to help plan and organise your neighbourhood gathering or project. Download your toolkit today and start planning. You may even start a new neighbourhood tradition.

Community Building Workshops

Free community workshops were hosted to help people who really wanted to make a difference in their neighbourhood to become a “Community Connector”. The workshops were specially designed by Community Praxis Co-op to explore what interested Connectors could do to create the kind of neighbourhoods they wanted to live in. Workshop participants:

  • Got a clearer sense of what is possible for their community
  • Discovered ways to create community solutions and understand the elements of what builds a community
  • Developed methods and skills for building community connectedness.

Neighbourhood Stories competition

Council, in partnership with HOT 91, invited community members to submit a short video telling us their neighbourhood story.

Submitted videos are available for viewing in the Neighbourhood Stories Video Library.
