The overarching vision for heritage on the Sunshine Coast is: Our heritage is our gift for the future.

Community engagement

Council invited heritage stakeholders and the broader community to have their say on the identification, conservation and management of the region’s heritage over the next ten years. The Have Your Say engagement ran from 16 November to 13 December 2020.

Survey results

Participants in the Heritage Plan survey were asked to rate how important they believed Council’s support of cultural heritage is into the future. 91% rated it as important to very important.

When asked how they would rate the draft Heritage Plan 2021-2031 strategies, an overall average of 88% of respondents rated the strategies as important to very important. These ratings were based on the Plan’s overarching framework of Knowledge, Conservation, Support, Communication and Advocacy.

What you said

Overall, feedback from the community engagement program suggests that the Heritage Plan 2021-2031 takes a proactive approach and comprehensively identifies the importance and value of protecting and enhancing the region's heritage.

There was significant support for the key strategies within the plan.

Sunshine Coast Council endorsed the Sunshine Coast Heritage Plan 2021-2031 at the Ordinary Meeting on 25 February 2021.
