Local Law Review: Waste Management

The Sunshine Coast Council Local Laws and Subordinate Local Laws were adopted on 1 January 2012. Council’s local laws are reviewed on a regular basis.

Purpose

Council has made changes to the local laws in relation to waste management. Please see the related website notice.

Community Engagement

Council invited the community to comment on the proposed changes.

Opportunity to comment on the amending local law had closed on Friday 22 December 2017.

Where to from here

All submissions were reviewed and council made a decision at the Ordinary Meeting on Thursday 17 May 2018.

Overview

The amendment local law amends Sunshine Coast Regional Council Local Law No. 3 (Community Health and Environmental Management) 2011 and replicates the provisions of Chapter 5A of the Environmental Protection Regulation 2008 (the Regulation) and Part 2A of the Waste Reduction and Recycling Regulation 2011 (WRRR), which will both expire on 1 July 2018. The amendment local law allows Council to continue to regulate the appropriate storage and removal of general waste from premises within the region under Council’s local laws.

The proposed Amendment Local Law No. 1 (Community Health and Environmental Management) 2017 simply replicate the current provisions into the local law.
