New Council Park, Nambour

Council would like your input to help plan for a new council park at Petrie Creek in Nambour (adjacent to Quota Memorial Park). Your feedback will help guide the design and development of this park.

Purpose

In October 2017 council endorsed the Open Space Master Plan for the Petrie Creek Parklands.

Design and construction of a new council park will be one of the first major projects to be progressed as part of the Petrie Creek Parklands upgrades.

The design will complement other works completed in the parklands including the skate park and Heroes Walk in Quota Memorial Park.

Petrie Creek Catchment Group have undertaken extensive work to restore the creek area of the site. This will benefit the new park and will be considered in the design.

About the park

The new council park is a 1.7ha parcel of land along Petrie Creek. Together with Quota Memorial Park, the new park will provide an additional park for the residents and visitors from across the Sunshine Coast to enjoy.

As this is considered a Sunshine Coast wide park designed to benefit users from across the region, there are a number of design opportunities available for this park that are not an option for our smaller local parks.

Quota Memorial Park already has a number of popular features such as the memorial space for veterans with the Heroes Walk and cenotaph, the Goong' Gai'Ba indigenous garden, and the playground and award winning skate park. The site is adjacent to significant Kabi Kabi First Nation's People's cultural heritage sites and will also be adjacent to the Nambour Tram Terminus, which is still in development.

As part of this design and planning phase, council is investigating other opportunities to attract residents and visitors to the parklands and would like to hear your suggestions.

Community engagement

This project will involve two phases of community engagement.

Phase One - invites the community to share your initial ideas for the new park.

Come and enjoy free activities:

  • face painting
  • seedling giveaways
  • storytelling
  • didgeridoo performances

Phase Two - invites you to have your say on a draft landscape plan, which will be developed based on the initial feedback.

Share your ideas

Now is your chance to help shape what elements to include in the design of the park.

A map outlining the location of the new park and extract of the Petrie Creek Parklands Open Space Master Plan is provided for your information to generate initial ideas.

Council invited local community, visitors to the region and local businesses in the area to share their views.

  • survey closed 5pm Friday 4 May 2018
    • local resident survey
    • local business survey
  • council held 'Share your ideas' day on Saturday 21 April 2018 at Quota Memorial Park amphitheatre shelter. .

Where to from here

A draft landscape plan will be developed and available to view on council's website later this year. The community will be invited to have their say on the plans via an on-line survey or by contacting the project team.
