Why are you running a video competition?

    Building a community that is resilient to disasters starts with our youngest community members. As part of its Get Ready Queensland program, council invites primary students to help tell our local communities how to best prepare for disasters and have the chance to win great prizes.

    What should I include in the video?

    Your video should inform and educate our local communities how to best prepare for disasters and encourage them to have their own disaster “WHAT-IF PLAN”.

    When can I submit my video?

    Video entries can be uploaded from 9am, Wednesday 1 April 2020. Submissions close at midnight on Thursday, 30 April 2020  Tuesday, 30 June 2020.

    You can be planning and filming and getting your entry ready before then!


    Who can enter?

    Grades Prep to 6 from any primary school located within the Sunshine Coast Local Government Area.

    Team Entry is open to students in grades P to 6 from any primary school located within the Sunshine Coast Local Government Area. A team may consist of one student but must be no more than five students. Please note, team entrants must have the consent of their school and parent or guardian to enter. 

    When will the winner be announced and how will the winner be notified?

    Sunshine Coast Get Ready Schools Competition finalists will be announced by 20 July 2020.

    Once community voting has concluded, the winner will be announced 7 August 2020 via council’s Facebook page.

    What is the prize?

    • Media marketing package: The winning team and their school will work with Sunshine Coast Council to take their winning entry to the next level. Students will work behind the scenes and in front of the camera to deliver their entry concept for council’s 2020 Get Ready television, radio, and social media campaign.

    • Winning team members will each receive a Family Evacuation Kit 

    • The winning and runner-up schools will receive duel branded school hats

    • Runner-up prizes include Get Ready Packs and Emergency Kits

    • Various Get Ready merchandise.

    What will my video be used for?

    The video entry may be used by council to promote the community voting stage of the competition. 

    The video entry will also appear in the 2020 Sunshine Coast Get Ready Schools Competition video library. The students of the winning entry will work with the Sunshine Coast Council behind the scenes and in front of the camera to deliver the students entry concept for council’s 2020 Get Ready television, radio, and social media campaign.
