Draft Sunshine Coast Youth Action Plan

The Draft Youth Action Plan community engagement period closed on 12 February 2018.

Purpose

Council is preparing a new Sunshine Coast Youth Action Plan to replace the former Sunshine Coast Youth Strategy 2010-2015. Once completed, the Sunshine Coast Youth Action Plan will include priority areas that will direct the support provided to young people and youth services on the Sunshine Coast.

Community engagement

Council closed the community engagement period which ran from 13 November 2017 to 12 February 2018. Council invited the community to provide feedback on the draft Youth Action Plan. The purpose of the community engagement was to:

  • create community awareness of the youth action plan and what it means
  • provide an opportunity for the community to provide feedback
  • gauge interest from local community services in possible future partnerships

Where to from here

Feedback received from the community during the community engagement period is now being evaluated. Feedback received from the community will enable council to finalise the draft Youth Action Plan. The draft action plan will be presented to council for consideration in early 2018.

The overall preparation of the action plan has been undertaken in collaboration with members of council’s youth development program, Speak Up Engage. Consultation with young people, consultation with the youth and community services, a review of statistical data on youth, and an analysis of the needs, experiences and interests of young people has informed the plan’s action items.
