Council is committed to providing high quality open space that supports active and healthy communities. Council has identified Lions and Norrie Job Park as the proposed location for the construction of a basketball half-court facility.

The location has been proposed to complement the other surrounding park functions and allow for potential future expansion of other informal youth sports and games.

Why a basketball half-court?

The recently endorsed Sunshine Coast Recreation Parks Plan 2021 has identified a short-fall in informal youth sports and games facilities such as basketball half-courts, multi courts and netball courts in the Coolum area.

Informal sports and games facilities provide an important function for children and young adults to engage in healthy, physical and social activity in an outdoor setting.

They cater to a wide range ages and abilities who may have outgrown traditional playground equipment and are looking for park activities that suit their physical activity needs.

Community engagement

Council invited the community to complete an online survey and share their views on the proposed basketball half-court location indicated on plan below. Submissions have now closed.
