Project Overview

What is a dog exercise area?

Dog exercise areas are activity spaces provided to promote social and physical health for dogs and their owners. Dog exercise areas may be fenced or unfenced and may include the following, depending on the selected site:

  • 1.2 metre high, black chain wire fence with two self-closing access gates (if fenced)
  • Caters for dogs of various sizes
  • Dog agility / exercise equipment
  • Park shelter and shaded seating
  • Water tap with dog bowl
  • Concrete access paths
  • Dog bag dispensers / rubbish bin
  • Signage
  • Shade tree planting.

Please refer to the Dog Exercise Area Example Plan for a dog exercise area design example.

What locations are being considered?

Council is currently investigating the proposed development of a dog exercise area in Glenfields, Mountain Creek. Initial investigations have identified five sites in Glenfields as suitable locations for a dog exercise area. These are:

  • Parklea Esplanade Park (unfenced and timed only)
  • Prelude Drive Park (unfenced or fenced)
  • Glenfields Neighbourhood Park Option 1 (unfenced and timed only)
  • Glenfields Neighbourhood Park Option 2 (unfenced or fenced)
  • Micrantha Place Park (unfenced, not timed).

To assist with these investigations, we are seeking your input to understand:

  • Your support for the proposed development of a dog exercise area in Glenfields
  • When and how you would use a new dog exercise area; and
  • Of the identified locations, which is your preferred location?

Your input will help Council determine the community demand and the best location for a dog exercise area in Glenfields.

Community Engagement

Community members were invited to complete a short online survey between Monday, 22 April and 5pm Monday, 20 May 2024.

Next Steps

Your feedback will help Council determine the demand and best location for a dog exercise area in Glenfields.

Council will collate community feedback in late May/June 2024. A summary of the survey findings will be included on Have your Say Sunshine Coast.

The construction of the proposed dog exercise area has not been scheduled. If the community supports the proposed dog exercise area, it will be developed in stages subject to detailed design and available funding in future financial years.
