Project overview

In 2024, Council began investigating the proposed development of a dog exercise area in Glenfields, Mountain Creek. Initial investigations have identified five sites in Glenfields as suitable locations for a dog exercise area. These are:

  • Parklea Esplanade Park (unfenced and timed only)
  • Prelude Drive Park (unfenced or fenced)
  • Glenfields Neighbourhood Park Option 1 (unfenced and timed only)
  • Glenfields Neighbourhood Park Option 2 (unfenced or fenced)
  • Micrantha Place Park (unfenced, not timed).

Community engagement

To assist with these investigations, Council consulted with residents between 22 April and 20 May 2024 to understand:

  • Support for the proposed development of a dog exercise area in Glenfields
  • When and how residents would use a new dog exercise area; and
  • Of the identified locations, what was the preferred location.

Based on the community engagement findings, Council identified the inclusion of a dog exercise area in the Glenfields Neighbourhood Park as the most suitable option.

A summary of the stage 1 community engagement findings can be viewed here.

In 2025, Council prepared a draft landscape plan for Glenfields Neighbourhood Park that included the provision of a fenced dog exercise area. The area identified in the draft landscape plan was the community's preferred choice. Community members could provide feedback on the draft landscape plan between 20 January and 14 February 2025.

Next steps

Council has included the provision of a fenced dog exercise area in the final landscape plan for Glenfields Neighbourhood Park.

While the plan will guide future improvements, it is important to note that none of the elements are currently funded for implementation and we have not scheduled construction of the proposed dog exercise area or any park improvements for Glenfields Neighbourhood Park
