Overview

Project overview

Sunshine Coast Council is planning to improve the active transport network for people walking and riding between Maroochydore City Centre and Alexandra Headland (MCC2AH). The project aims to connect these two important centres with community engagement playing an important role in determining a preferred route.

The MCC2AH project is Stage 7 of the Mooloolaba to Maroochydore Cycleway, delivered in partnership with the Department of Transport and Main Roads. Once complete, the 6km active transport link will provide a safe, direct and accessible connection for people walking and riding, while integrating with nearby open space areas.

During earlier consultation for Stage 6 of the Mooloolaba to Maroochydore Cycleway, an indicative alignment for Stage 7 was shared. We are now taking a step back to start the conversation early and seek feedback before any route is determined, ensuring local voices help shape the best connection between Maroochydore and Alexandra Headland.

Project benefits

Community engagement

Prior to the development of route options, we invite our community to provide feedback on the proposed study area which will help to guide the selection of potential active transport routes.

Have your say between 3 November and 5pm 28 November 2025. You can provide your feedback by:

Your input will help Council to:

  • Understand key areas of concern or opportunity within the study area
  • Understand community preference relating to various routes, open spaces and landscaping along the MCC2AH Active Transport link
  • Ensure connectivity and accessibility measures are tailored to the needs of the community.

Background

Sunshine Coast Council’s Corporate Plan 2024-2028 includes ‘Our Strong Community’ goal. This encourages a healthy and active community through planning and delivery of the transport network to support active transport modes (walking and cycling).

To align with strategic priorities, the project will also reference Council’s Active Transport Plan 2011-2031. This considers development in the region, including population growth, the emergence of personal mobility devices, and improved active transport standards and guidelines.

Next steps

Feedback gathered on the study area during Phase 1 Community Engagement will be used to help identify potential route options which will be presented to the community for consideration in 2026.
