Stage 1

Stage 1: Foreshore to Palm Avenue

Overview

The concept design for Stage 1 of the M2U project includes:

  • Mooloolaba Esplanade (Buderim Avenue to Venning Street): New walking and riding paths, physically separated from traffic lanes.
  • Venning Street: A two-way cycle track at road level, located beside the existing footpath and separated from traffic by a 0.5m buffer.
  • Goonawarra Street (Venning Street to Palm Avenue): A two-way cycle track and separate footpath at verge level, with a 0.5m separation from traffic lanes.
  • Intersection safety upgrades: Separate crossings for people walking and riding, plus new raised crossings to improve visibility and safety.
  • Landscaping: Explore opportunities to incorporate selected plantings within the road corridor to enhance amenity (subject to detailed design).
  • Public transport: Existing bus stops will remain in their current locations.

Stage 2

Stage 2: Amarina Avenue to Karawatha Drive

Overview

The concept design for Stage 2 of the M2U project includes:

  • Goonawarra Street and Amarina Avenue intersection: A new raised crossing to improve safety for people walking and riding.
  • Mooloolaba Tennis Club (northern side): A new separated two-way bicycle-only path, with the existing path retained for walking only.
  • Molakai Drive: A two-way cycle track at road level, adjacent to the existing footpath, with a 0.5m buffer separating it from traffic lanes.
  • Intersection upgrades: New raised crossings to enhance safety for people walking and riding.
  • Landscaping: Explore opportunities to incorporate selected plantings within the road corridor to enhance amenity (subject to detailed design).
  • Public transport: Existing bus stops will remain in place, with improvements to pedestrian priority.

Stage 3

Overview

Stage 3: Molakai Drive to Golf Links Road

The concept design for Stage 3 of the M2U project includes:

  • Karawatha Drive: A two-way cycle track at road level, located beside the existing footpath and separated from traffic lanes by a 0.5m buffer.
  • Centre median: Select locations where the centre median will be narrowed to accommodate improvements.
  • Intersection upgrades: Separate crossings for people walking and riding, along with new raised crossings to improve safety.
  • Landscaping: Explore opportunities to incorporate selected plantings within the road corridor to enhance amenity (subject to detailed design).
  • Public transport: All existing bus stops and shelters will remain in place, with bus stopping bays located out of the traffic lane.

Stage 6

Stage 6: Ballinger Road to Sunshine Motorway

Overview

The concept design for Stage 6 of the M2U project includes:

  • Stringybark Road: A new two-way cycle track, physically separated from traffic lanes by a 0.5m buffer, alongside a separate footpath to replace the existing footpath.
  • Intersection upgrades: Safety improvements including new raised crossings for people walking and riding.
  • Landscaping: There will be some impacts to vegetation on the eastern side of the corridor. Opportunities to incorporate selected plantings within the road corridor to enhance amenity will be explored during detailed design.
  • Public transport: All existing bus stops will remain in place, with bus stopping bays located out of the traffic lane. Some modifications to existing bus shelter and boarding slabs will be required to accommodate the new facility.
