Overview

About the project

Sunshine Coast Council is planning to extend Buderim’s Goshawk Boulevard 700 metres east to connect Stringybark Road to Power Road. The extension will give local neighbourhoods easier access to local shops, provide walking and riding pathways and reduce traffic congestion on adjacent streets.

The extension will:

  • make it quicker and easier to drive, walk and ride between neighbourhoods north of the Sippy Downs Town Centre
  • allow residents near Power Road to walk to local shops on Goshawk Boulevard and access the new Stringybark Road pedestrian and cycling bridge
  • enable a second access point to the existing Atrium Buderim development, as required in the development approval, improving safety and traffic management during emergencies.
  • provide a second access for current and future residents living on Power Road, Buderim.

Community engagement

Between 3 November and 28 November 2025, Council invited feedback on the draft concept design for the Goshawk Boulevard extension.

Community members could have their say by:

Thank you to everyone who shared their feedback. All of the feedback received will be reviewed and carefully considered before the project progresses to the detailed design phase.

Goshawk Boulevard is proposed to be extended before or in conjunction with any development on the vacant 77 Power Road, Buderim.

While exact timeframes for construction are subject to future budget allocations.

The project team will continue to keep the community informed as this important project progresses.

    Background

In consultation with the community in 2007, Council investigated multiple potential alignments for extending the road in this area. Council and the community’s preferred local transport link would pass along the southern edge of the vegetated area. This would maximise the land available for Council to create the Springs Conservation Area to the north. It would also reduce impacts on specific environmentally valuable trees, such as the endangered swamp stringybark (Eucalyptus conglomerata).

About 250 metres of the Goshawk Boulevard extension passes through a vegetated area alongside The Springs Conservation Area. Council purchased this land in 2003 for road and environmental purposes.

The Goshawk Boulevard extension concept design has included more refinements to ensure the project minimises impacts upon Matters of State Environmental Significance. Where impacts are unavoidable, Council will ensure environmental offsets are provided.

Mitigation of impacts will be achieved through implementation of a construction Environmental Management Plan.

The Australian Government has determined that further investigation of Matters of National Environmental Significance is not required.

    Concept design

    About the design

    The extension will deliver:

    • two traffic lanes (one lane in each direction)
    • two-way riding paths, separated from the road
    • walking paths
    • landscaping.

Responding to the Sunshine Coast community’s vision to get people out of cars, this project will deliver two-way riding paths separated from the road, new pedestrian pathways and crossings for walkers and bike riders.

The extension will give these Buderim neighbourhoods easier access and reduce traffic volumes on Stringybark Road, Ballinger Road and the eastern end of Sippy Downs Drive.
