The Sunshine Coast is emerging as a globally competitive economic hub, capitalising on our region’s outstanding liveability, lifestyle, character and natural environment.

By protecting and leveraging our competitive advantage, the proposed planning scheme includes measures to help strengthen and diversify our economy, now and in the future.

Powering innovative economies

The proposed planning scheme aims to encourage investment and jobs in industries like cleantech, manufacturing and food and beverage production.

Industrial land is limited, so we’re planning for more at Beerwah, Caloundra, Yandina and, in the future, Beerwah East.

A new Innovation Zone and a simplified Industry Zone will also help businesses grow and thrive.

The proposed planning scheme focuses growth in mixed use centres, where people can live, work and play in the same neighbourhood. The proposed centre zones and new Mixed Use Zone are designed to bring homes and businesses together to encourage vibrant economies that support local businesses.

Rural and agricultural productivity is supported through proposed new protections for agricultural land. The proposed planning scheme also allows for compatible activities like agritourism and agribusiness, as well as opportunities for small-scale and low-impact visitor accommodation.
