Your place... it's important to you and important to us. PLACE + is an exciting new investment in the town centres, villages and transport corridors across the Sunshine Coast. It is a compilation of programs focused on delivering high quality public spaces for people to enjoy and experience. Beerwah has been chosen as the first community to be funded under the PLACE + program.

We want your thoughts and ideas about your area, what's important to you and how you think we can best create the type of place that you want to live in.

Join the online discussion, fill out a survey, attend a community forum... there are many ways you can have your say and we're listening.

Managing Waste in the Future

Managing Waste in the Future

Sunshine Coast Council needs your help identifying ways we can manage our household waste that are easy to do, cost effective and kind to the environment. Due to changes in state government policy and planning for a new domestic waste contract in 2014, it's time to review the way we manage our rubbish.

There are a number of factors for us to consider and we would like to hear your ideas about how we can all manage waste in the future by adding your ideas and comments to our online forum and taking five minutes to complete our online survey.

We want you to express your ideas and views across all the Rural Futures discussion topics in our online discussion forum. Read what others are saying, listen to their experiences and ideas and create the conversation.

Zooming into 2030

Zooming into 2030

In 2010, the Sunshine Coast held a photographic competition titled Zooming into 2030.  Through the eyes of children, young adults and those a little older, over 200 entries were received and assist in mapping out a clear vision for the future—responsible growth, a healthy environment and a solid community.  The images and captions represent our community’s hopes and dreams for the future of the Sunshine Coast.

The majority of images and captions used in the Community Plan have been contributed through the Zooming into 2030 project.  Council has created a flickr photo page where you can view all of the images.

Do you want to zoom into 2030?  If you have an image or a good idea for one that represents what you want to retain on the Coast or what's missing, then we would like to hear from you.  Please send your images to zooming@sunshinecoast.qld.gov.au, and also include a caption (no more than 25 words) that starts with "In 2030 I hope that ....."

Community engaged in looking forward to 2030

Community engaged in looking forward to 2030

The preparation of the Sunshine Coast Community Plan has involved considerable input from local residents. It began with an extensive analysis of feedback obtained over the last five years from previous research and community consultation activities.

Further information was derived from an independent survey of 800 people and a two day community conference held in October 2010, which was attended by a wide range of Sunshine Coast community representatives and stakeholders.

The community appreciates that there are difficult choices and major debates ahead as we try to balance the competing pressures for economic development, environmental protection and a more equitable society.  Our community has also made it clear that it wants to participate and its voice to be heard in these future debates.

Join the debate, add your thoughts and ideas to the online discussion forum and help shape our Community Plan and our region.
